It’s nothing new, to be woken up constantly throughout the night by anxious thoughts. But when you are an entrepreneur, this appears to be something that happens almost too regularly. When you are running a start-up company, that first year or two can be a combination of dread and excitement in equal measure. You have employees relying on you to do the right thing for them, but also they need to get paid! What are the most common concerns keeping entrepreneurs awake at night?
“What’s Around The Corner?”
We always fear what we don’t know, and the future is impossible to predict. So how can we keep our fears under control, so we can get that all important shuteye? Peace of mind is something that is impossible to come by, and living in that feeling of alertness is part and parcel of being an entrepreneur, and fortunately. Not knowing what’s around the corner is, in many ways, a default setting for lots of business owners. The important thing to do is to make sure you have done everything in your power in the here and now. This is the only way you can feel comfortable.
“How Can I Pay For Everything?”
Finances are always going to be a concern, regardless of how poor or rich you are. If you feel you are unable to pay for everything, then you need to begin the downsizing approach. It’s unfair for you, and your employees, to keep up a pretence that everything is fine and dandy, when it’s actually falling apart at the seams. Instead, you are much better off being able to make sure you’ve got everything under control financially. This could be achieved by outsourcing to other companies. Whether there are certain tasks that can be done off site, or there are companies that can provide computer consulting for businesses so you don’t need an in-house team to look after your IT infrastructure, you will need to make sure you can foot the bill at the end of the month. If you can’t pay the bill, not only will your business go under, but your reputation will be destroyed, making it impossible to build up relationships with future clients, because you were unable to pay first time round.
“What Am I Forgetting?”
Not exclusive to entrepreneurs, we all struggle to fall asleep because there’s something that we know we should be doing, but we don’t know what it is! Why are most of us can’t afford to have a personal assistant keep track of everything, there are some simple productivity tools we could take advantage of, not just to make sure that we are organized, but we are doing everything as efficiently as possible. In addition to the typical note-taking systems, you might find that something has fallen through the cracks that needs drafting quickly. If you’ve got an important meeting in an hour, and a report hasn’t been typed up, speech to text software will be a lifesaver!
We can’t always expect to get a good night sleep, but when you feel good sleep is a rare luxury, it’s time to reassess your priorities. It might also be beneficial to find some suitable methods to fall asleep. But whatever your issues are, you need to be well rested, because how can you expect to lead your business to victory when you haven’t slept properly?
